Aldershot Proms 2011
The 2010 Proms Extravaganza was on Saturday 16th October 2010 and was in aid of the Poppy Appeal and Parkinson's UK. The concert featured the Farnborough Concert Band of the Royal British Legion alongside other guest artistes on the bagpipes, violin and narrating a rousing musical version of Battle of Trafalgar as a finale.
Last year's children's concert featured the story of Peter and the Wolf, set to a musical accompaniament from instruments in the band. It also included music from the popular films Star Wars and Harry Potter. This year a local school will be invited to join the band on stage for this performance.
The 2011 evening concert will provide the usual patriotic finale after some outstanding new music as well as the old favorites.

The history of the Aldershot Proms
The Aldershot Proms Extravaganza has now been running for 15 years. It is specifically aimed at raising funds for the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal, but other charities have also benefited from the public's generosity at attending these concerts.
This continued support has enabled the band to donate over £80,000 to the Poppy Appeal and the following charities;
- The Army Benevolent Fund
- Kids Out 2004
- Multiple Sclerosis
- Hampshire Blind Association
- Make a Wish Foundation
- Club Hampshire
- Royal Society for the Deaf
- Parkinson's Disease Society
As always, these concerts are a musical feast of film, pop, show music all ending with a patriotic finale of Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory, giving everyone present a feel good factor about all things British.
